The Ladies of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Terry Farrell as Lieutenant/Lieutenant Commander Jadzia Dax
Lieutenant/Lieutenant Commander Jadzia Dax, the Science Officer, was assigned to Deep Space Nine in 2369, shortly after Starfleet took over operation of the station following the Cardassian withdrawal from Bajor. Jadzia Dax is a member of a joined species known as the Trill, which is composed of a humanoid host and an extremely long-lived symbiont. Jadzia had wanted to become a host ever since she was a child and worked hard at winning the honor. She won several scholarships, and achieved Premier Distinctions in exobiology, zoology, astrophysics, and exoarchaeology before she was allowed to be joined in 2367. The Dax symbiont's previous host had been Curzon Dax, a close friend of Benjamin Sisko. Jadzia Dax noted that such friendships are sometimes difficult to maintain when a Trill has a new host, particularly one of the opposite sex (Emissary). Jadzia's hands are cold, a characteristic of Trills (A Man Alone). Dax's previous hosts had been both male and female. She had been a mother three times and a father twice in previous hosts, but Jadzia confessed Dax hadn't been very successful either way (The Nagus). As a beautiful woman, Jadzia Dax received the attentions of many men, including Doctor Julian Bashir and the Ferengi bartender, Quark. Dax considered herself to be above such interests, although she once admitted that she thought Morn was cute (Progress). By 2369, Dax had been attempting to master the Altonian brainteaser for 140 years (A Man Alone). Jadzia was the Dax symbiont's eighth different host, not counting Verad, who stole the symbiont for a few hours in 2370 (Invasive Procedures). Very little is known about Dax's earlier hosts, although Facets provided a list, as well some as some personal information about each of them.
